Course Code: ENGLISH-6

The study of English Language Arts at the sixth grade integrates reading, writing, speaking and language standards. It is comprised of three basic components: grammar, written language (which includes spelling) and vocabulary development. Students are encouraged to write often and in many modes. Focus is placed on basic communication and writing skills. Student progress through all of the stages of the writing process is monitored. In addition, all students will be expected to take the state mandated written language assessment in February and Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) test at the end of the school year in April. This course is specifically designed with appropriate adaptations to the content, methodology, delivery and/or design that address the student’s unique needs.
