Course Code: MATH-7

The curriculum for seventh grade mathematics encompasses the skills listed in the Common Core State Standards. A comprehensive review of students' basic mathematical processes in each content strand. These skills include numbers and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis and probability. Student mastery will be measured through pre-test and post-test assessments. The seventh grade mathematics curriculum focuses on a balanced approach to mathematics instruction in which all students should develop procedural fluency, computation fluency, conceptual understanding, and the ability to solve mathematical problems. Instruction will overlap with the 6th grade curriculum and progress to these critical areas: (1) developing fluency with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions, and developing understanding of the multiplication of fractions and of division of fractions; (2) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; (3) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (4) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; (5) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; and (6) developing understanding of statistical thinking. Students will be administered benchmark assessments and the seventh grade TCAP Achievement Test. This course is specifically designed with appropriate adaptations to the content, methodology, delivery and/or design that address the student’s unique needs.
