Course Code: MATH-8

The eighth grade mathematics curriculum focuses on a balanced approach to mathematics instruction in which all students should develop procedural and computational fluency, conceptual understanding, and the ability to solve mathematical problems. Instruction will focus on four critical areas: (1) content skill competency, these skills include: numbers and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis and probability (2) formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations with a linear equation; (3) grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships; (4) analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures. Students will be administered benchmark assessments and the eighth grade TCAP Achievement Test. This course is specifically designed with appropriate adaptations to the content, methodology, delivery and/or design that address the student’s unique needs.
