History is a series of stories about the past. It explicates real people who had unique ideas and beliefs, worked and struggled to put them into action, and shaped the present. This course reviews basic geography skills and studies ancient Egypt, Asia, Greece, and Rome. Skills include cultural awareness, economics, geography, history, governance and civics with a focus on the individual and group interaction. The sixth grade social studies curriculum focuses on world history up to the Middle Ages. Emphasis is placed primarily on the study of the Ancient Civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egyptian, Greek and Roman. This course emphasizes the rise of western civilization through various cultures, and concludes with the study of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Students will be administered be administered the sixth grade TCAP Achievement Test. This course is specifically designed with appropriate adaptations to the content, methodology, delivery and/or design that address the student’s unique needs.
